“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” – Luke 19:10

Much of what Jesus said when He taught the multitude was about how valuable individuals are, including those considered to be worthless in the eyes of the society. Luke, the Greek physician from Syria, records three of these talks in his Gospel.

There were 100 sheep; one was lost. There were 10 coins, one was lost. There were two sons, one was lost. Even the elements which Jesus used in these stories varied in value. A sheep is of little value compared to a silver coin, and a silver coin is of little value compared to the life of a son. Yet in each case there was rejoicing when that which was lost was found.

When we struggle with the feelings of inadequacies, feeling we are never good enough to warrant and receive God’s love is pictured in these three stories. Yet what we don’t understand is that God is far more interested in our coming to the Father than we finding the Father. When we were lost – without hope, and without direction, Jesus came seeking and searching. Long ago, Isaiah wrote, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way” (Isaiah 53:6). But Jesus said, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” (Luke 19:10).

There is help for our failures and hope for our despair. Let us take time to read these three accounts found in Luke 15, and see ourselves in that which was lost. Our lives can forever be different. Believe it.

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. – Romans 8:15-16

Our personality is partly the result of the way we were parented. Of course other factors are involved, but parents have a bigger influence on their children than some would like to admit. Children from abusive homes usually suffer from severe insecurity. They may struggle with anger just like their parents and repeat the cycle when they have children. On the other hand, parents who are kind and loving tend to pass these traits to their children.

When we become a Christian, we are adopted by a perfect Parent. Our heavenly Father loves us perfectly. He has no regrets for what He says to us; He never wishes He could have done more for us. We have nothing to fear because He watches over us, and He is more powerful than any problem we will ever face. We will not live in want because our Father’s resources are unlimited.

As God’s child, our life ought to reflect God’s character. The more time we spend with our Father, the more our life will reflect our new heritage. As God’s child, we should become more and more like Him, loving, patient and forgiving. As we grow in our faith, our Heavenly Father’s influence should have increasingly more impact on how we live that our earthly parents’ model does.

Don’t use imperfect parents as an excuse for not living to God’s standards. We have a perfect Parent who will teach us how to be loving, patient and forgiving, just like Him – our Abba, Father.

Many of us use to say, “Promises are made to be broken”. How many of us have broken their promises to their love ones? Or the question which is more appropriate is how many times we have broken are promises? Perhaps, we can say, I have broken my promise because I’m just human (tao lang po). Sometimes due to busyness, we tend to forget, and even worse neglect things. I remember my son asking me to buy him a Ben 10 slipper. The next day I told him that we will buy it when we go to school. Unfortunately, I forgot. My son started to grumble on things. Then, to make up with him I told him later we will buy that slipper. To make that long story short, I fulfilled my promise to him that I have broken earlier. Broken promises may result in bigger conflict; lack of trust, then later on, to broken relationships.

Upon reading the book of Genesis, specifically the story of Isaac, the son of Abraham, I am reminded once again that there is someone who fulfills promises perfectly on time. It is our Father in heaven who take completion of His promises (covenant) before Abraham and was then fulfilled to his son, Isaac, and then to all his descendants. In spite of their repeated sins and shortcomings, God made a way to fulfill His promises.

Indeed, this truth is a great assurance for all of us. When, God says it, consider it done already. Why? Because one of the attributes of God is, He is not a liar. He is the God of truth and the God who fulfills. He is the one who made fulfilled promises. Allow Him to prove it to you… You will not be disappointed… that’s a promise…

When I was informed that we will have a reunion of my batch mates in high school I am very excited. Because we haven’t seen each other or heard anything that much since we graduated. I think that was 8 years ago. Some of us have our own family while others remain single. But the good thing about our batch was we are all what we called “professionals.” Many of us have their own jobs and receiving an above average income. However, I really wanted to focus on the preparation and feelings embraces reunion and its biblical reflection. Hope you find reading my reflection interesting and it will help you to deepen your relationship to the Lord.

The word reunion means an act of uniting again or a gathering of relatives, friends, or associates at regular intervals or after separation. What do we usually prepare for a reunion? We usually prepare ourselves; our time, our money, our dress, then a specific venue that will suit our taste to make that event memorable and special. Especially, to those who are involved in planning the event, they usually spend more effort and time to make the event successful. And what do we feel for a reunion? There is mix of emotion; excitement, joy, expectations, even tears. So if we manage to exert too much effort and felt that kind of exuberant emotions on our social or individual relationships, how about our relationship to the Lord? Are we looking forward to His return? Do we find ourselves excited and blissful? What preparations are we arranging in order to make that event a wonderful experience? Are we giving ourselves for that special event? How does it will relate to our Christian life?

Philippians 1:6 says, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” So we have this hope and assurance that the Lord will make that event successful. But the question that remains, are we making this verse possible through our daily Christian walk? Indeed, the Lord will help us. His strength and power will make this possible if we allow Him to really move in our lives by doing our part. Just like the prayer of Apostle Paul to the church at Philippi, “that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.” Do we desire to discern what is best, be pure and blameless in preparation for our reunion to the Lord?

Let us then look up to the promise of the Lord, a reunion beyond our earthly experience. Let us ask the Lord that our love and knowledge abound more in preparation for our reunion with Him.

Happiness is a decision. It is a position and disposition.

According to Ptr. Ed Lapiz, happiness is attitude. It is us who chooses what ourfeelings would be.

I am so blessed.

Sinabi din na happiness is a frame of mind. It is also a lifestyle.

Enjoy what you are having right now.

Mas mahirap kung idle ang mind natin, kasi nga diba sabi, an idle mind is the workshop of the devil.

To God be the glory! I live for You alone.

Is forgiveness an art? Yes. It takes a lot of time to discipline your character to actually forgive others. All of us have someone we don’t like. Some of us may even have people we hate and want to see dead.

Pero masama ang mg higanti eh..

If you want revenge, try to work on blocking the actions of another person out of your mind completely so hate doesn’t engulf you and those around you. With patience, you will see the person (who did you wrong) getting paid back for their sins. It’s inevitable! Their own actions will cause them to miss the mark, fail at relationships and be torn up inside from turmoil, unrest and loneliness. And these things are much more detrimental than anything you could do to them – ever! Always remember that God is fair, but only in His own time!
